2020 Foresight
Having 20/20 hindsight is nowhere near as valuable as having 20/20 foresight; in fact, the claim to have hindsight, always is the excuse for lacking any foresight -- and that is the value of any understanding. Any knowledge one claims, has value according to its predictive value, because anything can explain what happened in the past that can not be repeated -- and it is this ability to repeat an outcome in future and subsequent events, that has any value at all. That's why there are so many geniuses with 20/20 hindsight -- and so very few, that see well into the future. The future is where any knowledge will be tested, and not in the past -- where all the excuses and explanations will suffice -- because it no longer matters.
Yet that is where fools dwell -- largely in the past. If it were up to them, they would do everything perfectly this time around -- but as to the future, they think it of no importance, because that is the unknowable they have no interest in finding out. Knowledge only of the past, is a dead thing -- not worth remembering, because it is the future, we wish to explore -- and live.
That is where the course of the world is being decided -- in the future, and not reinventing the past -- even as correctly as one would in perfect 20/20 hindsight, which of course, means one wants to do nothing in the present moment where the future is unfolding and being shaped. One is absent in this present moment -- and in every moment the future is being written. In such a way, people write themselves out of relevance -- which is to be present at every moment that matters. They are too busy rewriting the past -- in glorious tomes of what they would have done, if they were fully present then.
But life and the future, does not happen that way. It is an extraordinary thing to run into a mind that is fully there -- and not preoccupied being somewhere else, doing something else, being someone else. That's where reality hits the road -- and lives are proven and made. The hope is always that they can make it better than it was before -- rather than endlessly repeating what they have always done before, with the same dismal results. One hopes to break out of that chain of suffering and despair -- which is the great law of Karma, which is to get a different result, one has to do something different than what one has always done before -- with such disastrous results.
That is the only way that things can get better -- and not stay the same, and get worse. But that is how many live their lives -- thinking there can be no other way of doing and being -- and they become one and the same. That better being, is what one hopes to do. Let's not get lost in all the entertainment and distractions -- that only take us farther away from each significant presence -- where all that really matters, happens. Everything else is a delusion -- and many more become delusional in this way -- of living in the fantasy over the reality. They come to prefer it as their default reality -- in which all their problems there, can be solve easily and perfectly -- even as the walls around them are collapsing.
That is the lure of the mass manipulators -- who create these appealing alternative worlds they can win, and exclusively dominate -- because it is a world in which only they inhabit. It is their kingdom and refuge -- their Fortress of Solitude. In it, they are Superman -- winning and overcoming at everything they do. They are invulnerable. What's not to like?
But the world we share, is not like that. That requires a set of skills not to be the only important person there -- with all others there only to validate one's delusions of grandeur. That is the familiar and comfortable world of 20/20 hindsight -- where one always gets it right. So there is nothing to be learned from any mistakes. They just get erased -- to maintain one's perfect record. But going forward is still the problem. One senses, they don't want to go forward, but are content with remaining where they are -- for eternity, and that is not possible.
One has to go forward, not to go backward, but remaining the same -- for all eternity, is not living, or life. Life must go on. We can choose to go (flow) with it, or fight it to our dying throes -- which is a much harder way to live, and eventually are battered into submission. That's what every living being learns -- and in that process, learns to develop foresight -- and looks forward to their chances for finding out whether what they know, gives them a survival advantage. They don't have to compete against all the others -- just against the person they are, and hope to get better. That is the significance of their lives -- and each of us.
There is no mystery to life -- only this finding out -- each in their own way. That is the right to life -- and to live it.
Refusing to Change (Learn)
The fatal error in every life -- is refusing to change when everything in life is telling them they must change, and adapt to the new -- because life is always changing. Instead, they will insist that life (the world) must change to accommodate them -- and so things do not work out so well forevermore. Their fates have been sealed -- and only await the inevitable predictable outcome.
It always begins predictably enough -- with one thing going wrong -- and then another, yet they refuse to change -- thinking the outcome will be different. Of course that is the very definition of insanity -- doing the same thing over again -- thinking the outcome will be different this time. The world doesn't work that way. There is a reason why things happen -- and not just because one wishes they would otherwise.
That is the point of no return -- when a person is not coming back. They may have gotten lucky a few times -- but mistake good luck for a reason, and one day run out of luck -- and that car that never appeared before, does show up at the most inopportune time. It doesn't matter how many times nothing happened before -- because all it takes is for it to happen once -- to alter their course in life, or even to end it. So they adopted no precautions or preparations -- but hoped that they would always be lucky.
There is a silver lining when bad things happen without fatal consequences: it is a warning to be better prepared for the next time when one might not be so lucky -- and to be well-prepared for even worse -- by creating an extra margin for safety, to ensure that things do not go fatally wrong. Yet even despite one's best preparations and planning, there is no guarantee that nothing can go wrong. One just hopes that they fall within one's range of tolerance and preparations -- as the best they could have done -- and logically had reason to expect. Living forever, is guaranteed to no one -- and in fact, remaining youthful throughout one's entire lifespan would already be a remarkable achievement -- but forward-looking people, are working on it -- some more successfully than others.
The proof is in the living -- that is to say -- that it does not matter what one thinks they know about achieving that, but how they manifest and embody that in their own living of of that truth and knowledge. Otherwise, to claim to know much -- or anything at all, is the proof of one's living -- and livelihood. Obviously, to give health advice but be in poor health and condition themselves, gives one very little credibility -- despite how many others claim it is true also. What matters is that they manifest that truth of which they claim has merit -- and not that it works but none of its adherents and practitioners have yet to manifest and embody it.
Their knowledge is just theoretical and academic -- and we should just leave it at that -- that they have all the answers -- because they have all the certifications that that is so. So there is this world of knowledge which is never demonstrated and manifested -- that they are insistent must be believed, and never bother to look beyond -- to find out how this information is related to actual living and experience. It may even be in fact, that everything they believe to be true -- is not how they live and actually experience life and reality.
That is pretty scary to contemplate -- but explains why things go monstrously wrong, when one expects that everything is going right.
You have to do all the Right things -- because doing all the Wrong things, won't make any difference
Unfortunately, many do all the wrong things -- thinking they will get the same results as though they were doing all the right things -- and think just because they do them, it will turn out with the desired, favorable results. Instead, they find that things are snowballing even farther out of control -- and even threatening their future viability, and prospects for survival.
Yet they are certain that if they just persist in doing all the wrong things, God in His merciful wisdom, will make things come out right -- because that is what He is for, and not that they can do anything themselves to change that. So they pray to all the gods, but they don't seem to be listening -- or care. Their entreaties fall on deaf ears -- and the seas do not part before them -- providing a clear path to the Promised Land. Instead, they are stuck in the muck, and everyone is lost.
They all went down believing -- until the end -- thinking things would turn out differently, just because they wanted them to.
Life does not work out that way; it is unmerciful in finding out a way that works -- with or without you. That evolution marches on. Not all will survive; even those that do, don't live forever. They merely have their time on the stage for a while -- and then a whole new bunch of strangers take over -- and have their time and place. Nobody stays front and center forever.
But that is not the only game in town. There are a lot of nooks and crannies unexplored -- of which one can be the foremost expert -- the most obvious of which is the advice to know oneself. Very few others will be interested and motivated to do that as each person in their own lives -- and that is not nothing, but really, the only thing that matters. Everybody is different -- but maximizing that potential -- is the great challenge of every life, and in doing that, one may discover many other things -- others can benefit from as well.
The great quest of every life is intensely personal in this way -- beginning near to go far. If one thinks one knows anything, it obviously must work for themselves first -- and that is always an excellent place to start. To speculate about everybody else without first knowing oneself to even some degree -- is not having a place to stand on from which to lever that knowledge to a meaningful extent. Why should others have to prove it first that one's ideas are sound enough to work -- when the original author of such a thought, doesn't believe it enough to try it themselves -- and prove to the world that it works -- before wasting everybody else's time and resources?
That's what everybody wants to see -- what works -- and not hear all the explanations why things don't work, or that it would work, but we can't get anybody to do them. That's a huge part of the equation. It has to be something that everybody, or even anybody can do -- and not just be a wonderful theory and hypothesis that can never be proven, or worse yet, doesn't have to be proven. Then we get into the realm of "mad science" -- where everything is possible, but nobody can ever prove anything. In other words, it is just an unquestioned belief that nobody dares to test -- for fear of actually finding out. It is much more convenient just to convince everybody else that that is true -- and ostracize those who will not go along with the mob.
So the issue is no longer what is right and wrong, but which group has the bigger mob to enforce their consensus and correctness -- with of course, themselves at the top of the hierarchy. That's all they're there for -- to get to the top, and once there, have no intention of upsetting the apple cart. They like it fine -- being in charge. Henceforth, all their efforts will go towards defending and preserving the status quo -- with themselves at the top, or sufficiently high enough to feel a vested interest in keeping the way things are -- even if the problems get worse. That concern, they feel, is not their job.
So of course they miss the whole point -- as they see the rest of the world pass them by and render them irrelevant. They're not going to try to keep up -- but instead, prevent everyone else from getting ahead -- especially ahead of themselves. That is some people's idea of a job -- and meaning and purpose in this world -- to stamp out progress at every turn, and ensure that the world they grew up in -- endlessly repeats itself.
Meanwhile, the mass of humanity marches on -- with or without them. Right now, that would be extending the useful life of human beings to 100 -- in good shape and condition, which hasn't been done before. People begin falling apart after 50, and even 40 -- in addition to the many who do not get a proper start in life at all, and are imploding from early ages because of improper lifestyle, diet and exercise that doesn't optimize the health and well-being at any age. Many such dysfunctional people are even proud of their premature self-destruction -- as though that was a badge of honor and distinction. So when they go into irreversible decline -- that is quite predictable, and one would not expect anything else. They are the walking time-bombs just waiting to go off.
One does what they can to be as far removed when they do.
Seeing the Obvious
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to recognize when someone is in obviously declining health -- as well as recognize the exceptional few who are becoming more robust and vital. One can see it in their posture, body language, expression and articulation of the most visible parts of their body -- which is the head (face and neck), hands and feet.
That deterioration is often mistaken as the product of age -- rather than consequences of neglect and disrepair. It doesn't take a cosmetologist to recognize that almost everyone can be dramatically transformed using care and products that optimize the appearance of those most highly visible areas -- but always beginning with a base foundation of health and inner dynamism.
Of course the present political correctness is that there is no difference between good health and bad, left and right, up and down, black or white, male or female -- and so it is futile to try to make any difference. It is considered merely luck that some are rich, and some are poor, and nothing one can do will ever change that -- as though that manner of thinking was some kind of intellectual genius.
For the rest of us, we recognize that what we do influences our outcomes and experiences -- and not that we just want to be "right" -- despite all evidence to the contrary. There is a reason things don't work as they think it ought to -- and that is because everything they know, and refuse to learn anything else, is just plain wrong -- no matter how much they believe they are right.
It is not age that tells -- but time -- doing either the right things, or doing the wrong things -- that differentiates. It doesn't merely come out the same -- no matter what one does. That is the hardest thing for most people to accept -- that the reasons things come out badly, is because they're badly mistaken -- and that is the consequence. But it doesn't have to be that way -- the inevitable, no matter what one does -- or usually just gives up in that despair.
That happy outcome and result, may require one to change all they currently do and believe -- to achieve the better life. In fact, that is the inescapable story of every successful human being -- that they had to completely reinvent their lives -- even dying completely to the old, in order to be reborn in an entirely unprecedented new world and life -- nobody could even have imagined before.
But it's not enough just to do it in one small and isolated aspect of life -- but to change wholly and totally, in every aspect of their being. That is a profound change, and not simply one small modification -- while everything else remains largely unchanged -- which is really, no change at all. And that is why most people fail to change -- because they demand that everything else, remain the same -- and that is not possible. When there is real change, of course everything will change -- because that is the very nature of life and reality, and the story of evolution and change.
Thus those aspiring to wealth, are misguided in demanding that everybody else remain the same -- except for themselves. Either everyone becomes richer, or nobody does -- the same as now. So one can only hope that the tide raises all boats, or everybody remains stuck in the mud. That's simply how the world works -- and nobody single-handedly, and unilaterally, gets all the good, and leaving the bad for everyone else less entitled.
So one needs to have this much larger picture of life, for anything to make greater sense -- and be inevitable. It is not the struggle of the little to become the big, or the weak to become the strong, but for all to make a greater sense beyond the petty struggles of one against every other -- and each individual's ambition to overcome all the others -- by ruthless force. That's been tried many times before -- and has not worked.
In the field of exercise, such a mentality is still being cultivated and enforced -- with no success of achieving health to the very end. At best, a few delude themselves that they are still as they were 50 years ago -- and mistakenly believe that simply by doing the same things, they will get the same results -- which is obviously not true. Yet few think to change -- radically, to solve the challenges of their present conditions. They think it is enough simply to do what they did 50 years ago -- despite how much everything else has changed, including their own bodies.
And it is not that their bodies no longer work well -- but that they have not bothered to learn how it is working now, and program for those capabilities and enhancement. The body still works -- but very differently now even if it worked before -- but the new possibility, is that it can work even better than before -- with a better understanding of it. That would indicate that one was older and wiser -- and not simply thinking that forcing something that isn't working, or doesn't fit beyond its breaking point -- is the only thing possible.
Obviously when the heart is the only organ that seems to be working, the last thing any intelligent person would think to do is force it to work even harder -- rather than recognizing that the other organs, is what one wishes to engage and optimize. Why would one think that the only well-functioning unit is the problem -- except of course, it is the easiest part to "fix" -- which is like looking for the lost keys where the light is best, rather than in the darkness where one dropped it?
That is the approach one needs to take with any problem-solving -- and work on the weakest link and critical failure -- rather than polishing the chrome on the space shuttle. It is those who can best see these real needs, who discover the great inventions -- and not the many trying to reinvent the wheel. And that is why most exercise does not work -- in preventing people from going into the hopeless decline they attribute to "aging" -- by which they mean, nothing can be done about it. Yet they don't move on, and try to discover another way that specifically and directly addresses the notable failing at the head, hands and feet -- and merely try to strengthen and work the heart, as though that was its singular failing.
It is the articulation at the head, hands and feet, that are notably absent in those of poor health -- and not that the heart needs to work harder. That is the failure to understand circulation properly -- which is the major effect of exercise -- that optimizes the functioning and development to anywhere that is directed. That effect is best achieved not by making the heart work harder, but by the contraction of the muscles at the extremities -- that pump (compress) blood back to the heart and organs of recycling and revitalization. That is the fountain of youth resident in each body -- when understood in that way.
That is the key to ridding the body of the old -- and renewing itself. Otherwise, the old cells and material just accumulate in the body -- eventually causing it to become overloaded with the old cells, and their toxins, destroying whatever remnants of responsiveness remains -- until it is overwhelmed with debris and dysfunction. But that is not an inevitable process and development -- but the failure to see the big picture and significance of everything one is doing.
There's a reason why things happen -- even if we prefer not to see it. In short, if you're not getting the results you want -- it's not because of age -- but you're doing all the wrong things -- and that won't get you there. No way, no how, no time -- but doing all the right things, will. It's always been that way -- no matter how many certificates testify to their credibility. They simply have no idea what they are talking about -- and that is why what they are doing, doesn't work. Age is just an excuse -- for doing all the wrong things with impunity -- no matter how much one wishes it were so. That should be obvious -- and is manifested. It is that lack of understanding things properly -- that manifests in time. That is the reality of the situation. Everything else works fine.
When there is a problem, denial is not a solution.
Change is Change
Success in life, is one's ability to change -- as circumstances dictate the need for. Those who make those adaptations best, are highly favored in the game of life -- and particularly, in their own living. Far beyond the competition with every other, is that competition within oneself -- to do the best they can -- regardless of what everybody else is doing. That is almost the secret to life -- but there are probably others, as well. It is only a secret until one discovers it -- and then moves on to the next -- forging ahead in one's life in that manner of constant discovery.
When that ends -- it is the beginning of the end -- and then all in life begins to shut down. So how to maintain that fire and even add fuel to it -- all one's days, is the hope of every life -- and when that is gone, it is just a matter of time to the end. Nobody really provides a roadmap to that end -- though we all seem to get there eventually, unfortunately many before their time. It takes just one slip, one moment of inattention, one carelessness, for all to come crashing down. So life is a preparation to do the best one can -- because one never knows when it will matter most.
In this way, one learns not to tempt fate unnecessarily -- even if one got away with it many times before. Eventually the car that was never there before -- appears when it shouldn't -- and then it does not matter who had the right. Even then, there is never any guarantee of life forevermore. So it is very important to value every moment as supremely important -- because it could be the last. But making the best of it, increases one's chances -- and that is the best one can hope for -- always to be increasing one's chances for survival in that present prosperity.
The greatest predictor of future success, is one's present success -- and working to make it even better. That is one's momentum in life -- that takes on a life and intelligence of its own -- as the summation of every previous thought, word and action. There is no selective memory only of the good and unblemished -- but the good, bad and the ugly -- as the present outcome. Most other living forms don't overthink it -- but respond totally to that present reality -- as the summation of every other moment. They keep it simple in that way.
Even as much as we would want for things never to change again, change will come again -- but our responsiveness may diminish -- or increase, as we prepare for. Some merely go into denial of those changes -- preferring to relive only in their unchanging memories and minds -- rather than increasing their capacity to live in the greater present possibilities. Life has always been that way. There is always more to do, experience, learn, prepare for greater possibilities. That is not simply the province of the young, but all who choose to live that way.
The problem is that many give up and refuse to go on. They expect, nay demand, that the rest of the world stay the same for them -- and that is not going to happen, never has, and never will -- so the intelligent person realizes, they have to change, and can do it better than they've done before. That is the quality of resiliency -- or fitness to improve. There is no fitness just in staying the same; that is merely falling behind, becoming less capable daily -- largely because it is unexercised, and thus, actualized even in the practice. But that practice is real, and actual -- waiting for the right circumstances to optimize.
That is the proper understanding of exercise -- of the practice in being. Practice means doing -- and there is no other. That's how people get good at what they are doing. The alternative is not just thinking about doing -- but not thinking at all. Usually, one is distracted, entertained, consuming -- practicing all the things they don't want to become. That realization is mindfulness -- and from that emptiness, can come a whole new reality -- a discontinuation of the current mindlessness. And then all things seem possible. That is a break from the pattern. That is change.
It really is the most simple thing -- made complex and complicated by the mindlessness that doesn't want to change -- but to continue as it always has been -- even with its disastrous results. That conditions one not to even try anymore. The proper exercise should not be conceived with the idea to make it increasingly more complex and complicated (harder) -- but obviously, to make it simpler and easier -- and always possible. And that is the problem with most exercise -- it is abandoned at the first opportunity because it is too difficult and inconvenient, rather than made more increasingly inevitable. That would be the intelligent design of an environment for making it so. One that actually requires change -- as frequently and varied as possible.
That doesn't have to be hard. In fact, making it hard or difficult, makes it much less likely to be done. Yet there is this temptation among the instructors, always to make things more difficult -- as though that is the greater attainment, rather than the ease of movement and range of articulation (expression) in everyday movements. That -- already is impressive -- when it can be maintained all one's life to 100. That alone would be remarkable. Yet, as we know, most people do not get there -- in that kind of condition, which needs to change.
What needs to change, is this manner of thinking that movement must be hard, difficult, strenuous, and only for a few remaining, rather than best expressed and indicated by the movement and range at the neck, wrist and ankle -- which implies the rest. Faster is actually counter productive -- or duration beyond a minute. One does not need to build a machine to provide resistance through the full range of any movement; the range produces its own resistance to further movement. All one needs to do is see that that is so -- by doing it.
The First Line of Defense
Life has always been precarious; one wrong move, and one could be dead -- in a lifetime of chances. Eventually, everyone gets it wrong -- and is no more, but in the meantime, there are virtually unlimited chances to get it right -- until finally, there are no more chances. But chances, are all one can ask of life -- for it is the opportunity to do something with it. Many young people think life is to piss away as many chances as they can -- before their untimely and premature (tragic) end -- rather than increasing their chances and opportunities in a notably long and thriving life. And that is what a healthy life and lifestyle is all about -- and not simply pissing away as many chances as one gets -- until the predictable end, they only hope doesn't come too soon. But what are they doing about it -- besides hoping that things will go well?
That's where lives, health and fortunes diverge greatly -- and not that every life is just a random statistic (as the epidemiologists presume) -- so that it doesn't matter what one does individually and personally, because the outcomes are handed out randomly -- no matter what one does. Obviously, this flawed view of life and the universe it presumably takes place in, is the major handicap that many do not grow through and overcome -- but get stunted and retarded in a predictable short and miserable life. But what can they do about it?
That is the beauty of it -- that every life matters, and makes a difference what one does -- individually and personally. There is no other reality -- and the one that generalizing everything to minimize such differences and distinctions -- causes such calamities and crises, because one insists there are no differences, when obviously, they make a huge difference. Thus, drinking, smoking and overeating all one wants, is not going to result in the same outcomes as those paying diligent attention to such matters -- and ever making finer and more valid distinctions and discriminations throughout their long and successful lives.
One is doing nobody any favors, telling them they ought to do whatever they want to do, because somebody else will probably suffer the consequences -- because it just gets put into the giant pool of epidemiology and despair of never being able to distinguish any meaningful and substantial difference in one's entire life -- with all the studies on their side -- that average out into meaninglessness.
That world view plays itself out in every sphere of human activity -- so that investors thinking to beat the market -- think that the chances of a bad investment are superior to the prospects of a good investment, because reality will see that everything balances out in the end -- if they simply hold on long enough. So as long as the universe doesn't come to an end, they still can maintain hope that all will be well -- if they simply live long enough -- but of course, they never do. Life is too short, for everything to devolve into entropy.
But what matters, is that they are right -- and that is inconclusive, as long as there is still time (for miracles to happen). Meanwhile, the ants plug along -- doing whatever they can, no matter how their paths are deterred. They simply find a way to overcome -- and if the end comes for them, that is it -- and life goes on. They did what they were born to do, and when the end came, the life of the colony carried on. Every challenge and happenstance was necessary to evolve to what they had become. That march is relentless -- even if at times, the less fit are culled out. We just don't know when that will come -- or in what manner. That process has not been revoked, no matter how much wealth one accumulates otherwise.
Obviously, those with the greatest chance of survival, are those who do everything possible to increase those chances -- not taking foolhardy risks, but taking the prudent ones -- and discerning the difference. It is not just a matter of who gets to the intersection first -- regardless. Hopefully, one learns that lesson early and often so that it will not be fatal the first time out. Ultimately though, we all get to go around life once -- and behooves us to get it right as much as possible. But thinking it doesn't make any difference, is always the fatal error -- that catches up to one in its own mysterious time and fashion.
Often, that which we study and measure, are simply the easiest and most convenient things to measure -- and not the most significant and meaningful. It might be that we coincidentally have a heart monitor to sell -- even if it isn't the greatest indicator of health and robustness. Or a drug, or snake oil for that matter. Or unneeded, though costly, medical interventions. In fact, in the present hysteria, those with the least successful outcomes, are those requiring 24/7 intensive care -- and receiving it! Meanwhile, the homeless are dying unattended in their regular numbers.
All kinds of alarm bells should be going off. One would think that the poorest are the most vulnerable -- but that does not seem to be the case. The most vulnerable, are those who are the most affluent -- and can afford the exposure of 24/7 care. That constant and persistent exposure -- is one's vulnerability to infection -- which can even become fatal. That gives new meaning to the term, "toxic people" -- even as much as they are well-meaning and good-intentioned.
That is the unique challenge of people requiring the assistance of an army of caregivers to sustain their lives -- for as long as possible, and affordable. From this, the truly destitute, are virtually immune -- because nobody cares, and the attention goes elsewhere. That is end-stage affluenza. In previous times, they would have perished long before -- but now can be sustained indefinitely by extraordinary means. But the lowest threshold disease, could be fatal. That seems to be the inescapable lesson of the present health crisis. Those with a borderline fitness and health, have a hundredfold greater risk of succumbing and being pushed over the brink -- and nothing can be done to help that.
But the critical mass of humanity, is evolving to greater health at this time, by invoking the knowledge of intermittent fasting, the ketogenic diet, and an increasing appreciation of the autophagy (self-healing) that makes possible. That is what prevents one from getting into the compromised underlying health problems in the first place. That's where we all need to go. That is better than all the cakes, candy and ice cream -- especially, all one can eat. That is not the door to the good life -- but only a downward slope to a lot of chronic health problems of which we now know the end-game.
The fate of humanity is not 100% obesity and diabetes, and all its medical complications, but in a change in the course of that evolution towards greater baseline health for everyone. That entails cutting out the drinking, smoking, excessive eating, and deteriorating into a condition requiring caregivers to sustain everyone. That paradigm of contemporary health and living, is unsustainable -- with good reason! One needs to return and sustain a life of greater intelligence -- from the earliest years or face a dire future -- now that the old plagues, wars, famine, no longer kill off huge swaths of the population -- before they get to old age.
Nature finds its own way of ensuring the survival of the fitness. The most self-sufficient and self-reliant, have always been most prized and selected. It doesn't matter how good their health insurance is. What really matters is their baseline health -- and doing all the good things. Nobody can do that for anybody else. That is everyone's "underlying health condition." Some have it better than others because they spend their whole lives making it so. But what else is more important to do?
Live responsibly. Nobody lives forever. Make the best of it.
Making Do
Many are lost when the perfect conditions are not available to them -- as when a person's major exercise activity is swimming in a large community pool, or lifting weights in a well-equipped gym -- and they are closed indefinitely. At that, they often fall apart and are at wit's end for accepting and adapting to those changed circumstances -- and often wonder how they can go on in life -- while a few others, will take things in stride as though it was all part of the plan. And so you could never tell that all was not going according to plan (or expectations) but things worked out in their own mysterious and whimsical fashion -- and that is the exercise.
To be prepared for all things, is the value of any fitness program -- and not just being able to do one thing, the same way, in the same circumstances, unvaryingly every time, under ideal conditions -- without fail. Far more valuable, is being able to do whatever one has to do -- even unexpectedly -- when and if the circumstances present themselves in that way. That is all part of the larger plan and greater game in life -- and true measure of their fitness to adapt, survive and thrive. That hasn't changed over the million years of evolution and progress.
We often forget that, or never thought of it in the first place -- that there is a grand scheme of things -- and not just the constant busyness so we never have to bother to think on such things. So even when everything stops, some only wonder about the next thing, and not the challenge of the present moment in front of them. They are already thinking, what they are going to do six months from now -- and that is never enough, will never satisfy them -- because they are already looking too far ahead to their next goal or achievement, with never a moment to appreciate the present. No matter how much they have, they simply want more -- and the more beyond that. Many will applaud them for that relentless, tireless ambition -- and never ask, "What is the present objective and the larger picture?"
Is it merely to do unceasingly more, or merely enough -- as is appropriate for the present circumstances and challenge? Then surely, the future will take care of the next, and one doesn't need to know all the answers at the beginning, but will find them out when we all get there -- as we go along, and the future plays out. Nobody is so presumptuous that they demand from others that they know all the answers and will not make any mistakes -- just as they presumably don't. They think only what they do matters, and everybody in the world showed up just to applaud them -- as though what they do, is only for the benefit of others.
It's hard for them to come around to seriously believing that what anybody else does, matters, and could even make a difference. But each individual acting as though it matters, makes the greatest difference -- particularly when everyone does their best to ensure their own health and well-being as their own primary responsibility -- and then the help of others can greatly help them along. But if they simply condition themselves to resist all the efforts of others in achieving anything, much effort will be expended for very negligible results -- and even disastrous outcomes. That is true even when they claim to only be competing against themselves -- as though that was far nobler, or more intelligent thing to do.
One of the great advantages and opportunities of exercising at home is discovering the limitless variations of which it can be done -- manifesting economy and efficiency of movement and purpose. The value and objective of exercise is not simply to make the heart work harder, but to condition the other muscles of the body to aid and optimize the circulation that ensures the health -- and lacking that, the body is a lot less functional and well. Few people ever really consider these things -- and why they think most efforts towards this purpose is not directly manifested and actualized. It actually is -- but they are doing all the wrong things -- and so reaping those results. That's the way the world works. If one does the wrong thing, it doesn't get transmuted into the right thing -- just because one wants it that way. That is merely wishful thinking.
I once had a 103 year old woman as a neighbor who would frequently fall just outside her door -- and yell for help, and eventually some of the other neighbors would knock on my door to get me to pick her up -- since none of the others had the strength or know-how to do it themselves. Finally, I asked her why she kept on doing it, and she told me it was because her doctor told her to get outside and walk for 30 minutes each day -- although he knew she was legally blind, as well as frail, and the rolling walker was set much too high for her to be able to put her weight on it -- and so once on a walk with her to see what she could safely and reasonably do, the walker slid ahead and she did not have the grip strength to lock the wheels -- and so I caught her just as she was about to hit the ground, still holding on to the walker zooming ahead.
I made the optimal height adjustments for her -- but was dumbfounded whatever hospital had released her to return to her own independent living again, had done such a thoughtless job -- as well as the absolutely dangerous advice to walk around the neighborhood blind for 30 minutes each day. I suggested she'd be much better off just staying inside in the safety of her apartment, holding on to the back of a chair, and shifting her weight from left to right, while articulating the full range movement at the ankle -- of toes fully up, or heel fully up with the foot supporting no weight -- because the fullest range of movement, also achieved the fullest muscular contraction. The usefulness of a full contraction alternated with a full relaxation in that muscle (joint), is that it simulates the pumping action of the heart -- from that extremity to the heart. Most people misunderstand that the heart plays no significant role in pumping the blood back towards the heart -- but only affects the blood pumping out to the extremities -- if there is room for it.
But if there is no strong contraction being produced at the extremities of the body -- notably the neck, hands, and feet -- instead of an optimized flow, there is only resistance from the fluids already in there -- not being pumped out vigorously because most modern sedentary people never think to move that way anymore. Thus, the head, hands and feet become the telltale areas of the human body that show that atrophy and deterioration most obviously and visibly as the signs of aging -- even though a rare few still maintain an impressive midsection or biceps -- "for an old guy." However, if the circulation is optimized, the healthful vitality can remain -- because that is what optimizing the circulation does.
It's not about lifting heavy weights -- as it is just increasing the flow to and out of the area one wishes to develop and maintain optimally -- for as long as one continues to do it. The range of movement, determines the extent of the contraction -- and no resistance is required to achieve that contraction. In fact, the use of too heavy a weight, may restrict the range of movement, and thus the extent of the contraction -- and the alternating relaxation phase, thus enhancing very little blood flow. Meanwhile, the heart is still working (beating) harder -- but to no avail, because the blood flow is essentially blocked because of little change in the muscle from full contraction to full relaxation at the extremity -- just as the heart must do in order to be effective. The heart cannot just contract 50% and relax 50% -- or any other half-hearted effort, but can only contract 100% and relax 100% -- and thus the heart rate indicates the difference.
But still, it is only half of the story, because the focus one can strive to control -- is the muscular contraction at the extremity -- which mimicking the alternation of the heart, optimzes the circulation to the greatest extent -- particularly at the organs of human cognition and expression at the head, hands and feet. When those areas do not decline prematurely, no one can tell one is pretty good for even an old guy, because that person does not look old. Neither do they act (function) old.
That is the missing ingredient in the "aging" bodybuilders. Those are the areas that betray them -- because they are not deliberately addressed and exercised -- and more than anything else, would make the best sense to do so. As it is, their head, hands and feet, look like they're barely functional, and often misshapen and disfigured for lack of that proper exercise (circulation). Just working the heart infinitely harder doesn't do it. That should be Bodybuilding 101 by now. The area one actually works (articulates), is the area that will be most well developed. But ignoring that, will not get one the desired results no matter how much they can still retain bicep or midsection development. That is not what reveals them.
In fact, if they do nothing else, they should maintain the muscularity at the neck, forearms, calves -- and let the rest take care of itself in their own proper role as supporting muscular structures -- and not the primary muscles of expression. With that optimized flow out to those areas, the skin will have a look of youthfulness -- rather than that awful deadness, and lack of vitality -- that belies them. Skin moisturizer would also go a long way in older men who think they shouldn't care about such things. Women do, and that makes a huge difference in them. That's not cheating -- and makes much more sense than applying a fake tan all over ones wrinkled skin.
There are miracle products these days -- often surprisingly inexpensive -- even under $10 for a huge jar. To be living in these times and not taking advantage of every advantage is quite a waste. Most people are stunted in their thinking -- "what was good for those living one hundred years ago -- or even the last century, is good enough for me." That's what it takes to be the first person to 100, who doesn't look 100. That is the race worth winning -- and the springboard for life beyond. Not just people living on life support and caregiving, for virtually forever. Life is better than that.
Power is Getting Others to Believe Whatever You Want Them To
One does not need to think too deeply on it to see the obvious truth of the matter. If one can exhibit superiority in any way, that is their claim to power over all the others. It could be in athletics, knowledge, money, "friends," or any manner of confirming that impression. It is not necessary to eliminate all the other opponents -- but actually leave them around as testimony to their great prowess. Otherwise, their legend cannot grow in the retelling. Then one would have to convince each person anew of one's superiority, rather than resting on one's laurels, and with every fresh challenge, the risk is high that one may not be victorious, but suffer a fatal wound that is the end of their reign -- and eventually life.
Given a thousand chances, even the impala can deliver a fatal blow -- even by accident. But it is no less a mortal wound. Better then, that after one has become king of their herd, they let the pack do the hunting, and they just come around when the feast is ready -- and the pecking order is well-established and known. So contrary to myth, the leader is seldom -- if ever, the one leading the charge, but the one who shows up after all the dirty work has been done -- to claim victory and credit.
If they have a skill, it is in being able to play all the others against each other -- to keep them preoccupied and never suspecting what is being done to them. The only defense against such "operators," is to call their "bluff," and see if all the cards don't come tumbling down based on that faulty premise. Do we all die -- if any one does? Or is it just the normal, healthy course of life?
While it might be alluring to some to think they can live forever -- that they are "immortal" -- the fact of the matter is that we all have our own time on earth, and then we pass away. That doesn't make it nothing, or meaningless if it doesn't last forever. It is good for however long it lasts -- and then life moves on -- giving more a chance at it. There has always been the few, who if they could not live forever, then were determined to take everybody else down with them -- as the Pharaohs, Emperors, and chieftains of old. That was the elixir of their immortality -- that if they go, everyone must -- so therefore, everybody else should work to see that that does not happen.
That was the master mind, and master plan. "All for one." Everyone would die -- unless the king could live forever. There is no such Magic Pill. At best, one can live to 100 -- without looking like they are 100. Beyond that, only the charlatans promise humans can become immortal -- and live forever -- even as badly as they've lived so far. It doesn't work that way. Each subsequent year, is earned by each present moment -- and how one does with that -- and even all the billions in the world, cannot change that.
Of course there are always those old before their time, who assure us they have the fountain of eternity they drink from daily, yet at the rate of their deterioration, why would they live forever? But if they have a way of reversing that deteriorative process (aging), they are good to go for as long as that is happening. That doesn't happen sometime in the future -- but in each present moment. One is either getting better or worse -- and that trend, over a long time, are their present circumstances and capabilities. It can't just happen out of the blue -- no matter how hard one wishes that were so, and how much money they have.
Death is the Great Equalizer -- and how we come to grips with it. That is the story of Easter -- and how we prepare for it. The best is to live one's life as though each day is one's last; the worst, is to live as though one will live forever -- no matter what. Of course one promises to do better in the next life -- or the one thereafter. Anything but to escape the consequences of this life.
From that lesson, life is reborn. Those who live well, always seem ready to go -- or stay, while those who live badly, just want one more lifetime -- to do right. And so a natural passing is always a terrible thing -- and all they think to avoid. They won't do anything promising unless it is 100% guaranteed -- as though anything in life was that ironclad. All one can do is improve the chances -- and that is good enough for most. Some would settle for any chance at all. Those people usually make the most of it. They don't demand unlimited chances just so they can waste them. That is an allegory in every bible everywhere.
So when people have these unrealistic expectations of an equal chance as though they were never given any, one has to ask, "What is this world coming to?" Unhealthy people will die in greater numbers than healthy people. That should be understood -- as a large part of the reason we live. It is not a random walk down Main Street -- but a very deliberate path to that reward. It doesn't just happen -- or should it. So it behooves one to do the best they can -- and not just hope that everything equals out -- despite anything one does. It is very fashionable to believe that is so -- and the way the world is.
There is no vaccine for Immortality. You have to take your chances. And life goes on.
